John Simpson
“The screenprinting process adds a fascinating dimension to my work. Used in
conjunction with my monotype methods, it adds an element of control and extends
the possibilities of mark making. Sally and Angus at Artizan Editions both have
a remarkable understanding of what I wish to achieve. Their sensitivity, patience
and technical ability is invaluable during the creation of the prints.“

John Simpson's prints and drawings originally made an impact with installations
for streetwear brand Carhartt and Carnaby Street's Deal Real records. Despite
the initial influence of urban art, drawing has always been the most important
element in the work and it rejects the more aggressive imagery typical of this
genre. His recent work continues to grow from an interest in anthropomorphism
throughout fiction. It explores the curiosities of animal imagery in folk tales
and mythology, by attempting to capture the movement and expression of these
creatures.
After a sell out first show, John has exhibited in New York and widely throughout
the UK. The recent Wonderland series was commissioned to appear alongside Sir
John Tenniel's original woodblock prints and Salvador Dali's lithographs in
Lewis Carroll's Yorkshire.
