Sally McGill

“The main inspiration for my work comes from landscape, particularly when seen from the air so that the world becomes flat pattern. I am interested that you can often see the history of the land – tracks of former roads cutting across fields, standing stones, clearings etc.

I like to organise shapes and patterns, starting paintings in a loose way, incorporating drips and accidental marks, working in layers and using a fairly limited palette. I have always worked on paper as well as canvas and have tried different printing methods including etching and lithography, but I am now concentrating on screenprinting as it most suits the way I work.”
